Default lower CPU usage to solve heating problems

hello everyone,
English is not my mother tongue, so I beg you to excuse my awful writing.

It's my first post and I've just register.
I know perfectly well that the first things to do in that case are :
1 : R T F faq
2 : R T F forums
3 : Use T F Search fonction

Ok, I've done it yet, not long enough, I know, but in order to run mprime as soon as possible (I wish it could run now),
on a Suse 10 linux and on an old P3 laptop computer without having heat dissipation problems,
I need to ask only one question (which is surely yet in the forum, but where ?) :

When mprime is running, idle time is 100% and the fans are turning all the time,
I can't let it 24h/24 and 7d/7, without having my keyboard burning !

Is there an option in mprime or an external software or a command line manipulation (linux)
to reduce or limit the CPU occupation at a lower value than 100 % ?

thanks in advance.

From undoc.txt:
Code:
If you are running on a laptop or in a hot room and you want to slow the
program down to reduce heat, then you can add this line to prime.ini:
      Throttle=n
where n is the number of milliseconds to sleep after each iteration.
Not as direct as specifying a maximum CPU utilization, but a bit of experimentation with different values should give you the desired result.

Throttle=n does not work for factoring.

There may be cpu throttling options in your bios if you're confident with messing around there.

If you're familiar enough with suse, you can check out http://ftp.softnet.tuc.gr/pub/linux/...powersave.html for a daemon to manage cpu usage.

For any windows users, or if you can compile visual studio .net c++ on suse, http://www.oldskool.org/pc/throttle is a freeware throttling program.

I don't use suse or linux at all, so the above suggestions are just from some quick googling.

I didn't know that before, thanks! Another detail to attempt to commit to the dwindling grey matter.

However, I think the OP was using the term "T F" as "Read The F***ing faq", "Read The F***ing forums" and "Use The F***ing Search f[u]nction [re the forums, I assume]".
