Oh I'm sure that Franke, et al, never even heard of my puzzle - nor would they have bothered to submit a solution to me if they had because I'm sure it must have cost far more in terms of computing costs than what they recouped from RSA for the factorization of RSA-640. Nonethess, I was monitoring the status of the RSA-640 number quite closely while my puzzle was up however. ;-)

Power and air-conditioning alone for 80 Opterons would have cost a fair bit.
At UK Electricity prices I make power alone to be roughly US$2300 (1300UKP). Now three months (if only) of 80 Opterons for RSA-2048 might edge into profit. |
