No offense, but I don't see where so many people got the idea the Barton would have SSE2. It was only a slight redesign (probably optimizing die layout and adding more cache).

[Edit] Forgot the 2 on SSE. Oops.

The extra cache should help Barton a *little* on Prime95 work - but AMD never announced that Barton would support SSE2 - there was some *speculation* that it *might* do so from certain hardware sites (some reputable), but nothing official.

Hammer is another story - AMD *has* announced several times that Hammer will support SSE2 - and IIRC more SSE2 registers than the P-IV/Xeon themselves....

The Biostar M7VKq while a good board has only SDRAM memory. If you wish to use a biostar board you can go with the M7VIG which has ddr memory but the M7VIK has SATA/U2/FW

M7VKQ also has LAN and video on board.

There have been a *lot* of changes since this subject was last actively discussed - like the price of DDR dropping radically, the Thuroughbred Athlons commind down to the 1700+ (cheap!) level and overclocking like crazy, and Intel prices dropping as well - especially some Xeon P4's dropping UNDER the $100 mark (though Xeon motherboards are still expen$ive, that's slowly changing too).

*AND* the 23.1 / 23.2 P4 client enhancements that have tilted the balance at least 10% towards the P4-class machines.

Availability on the M7VKQ is drying up too. 8-(

I'd have to go back and recrunch all the numbers to make a current estimate - and yes, 3 months *DOES* make that much of a difference at times in this market.
