Default TF Benchmarks (or How big a range do I want)?

Hi all -

I'm going to finish up an LL test in the next week or so, and I'm considering doing an extended factoring run. What size range in the 25-30M area should I expect to take about a month on an Athlon XP 2200+?

Thanks.

depends on what bits you are taking them to. Your best bet would be to actually run one exponent in that range to your preferred bits and looking at how long it takes. Then look in the status thread to see what is available.

apocalypse:

Don´t factor anything between 25 and 30M. They are all being factored by other people. Check in the sticky status thread for numbers available. (In the 40M and 50M ranges you will find some).
As for the timings: as far as I remember from some TF I did a couple of months ago, a XP2200+ shall take roughly 1 minute to TF one number between 59 and 60 bits. This time ~ doubles for each 1-bit step you go up (e.g. 2 minutes between 60 and 61 bits).

lycorn -

The ranges in 25-30M seem to be taken only up to at most 60 bits. Would it really be a problem to reserve a range from 60 - 64 bits or so?

no not at all but you should wait till they are finished to 60 bits since there is no point doing an exponent to 64 bits now if a 60 bit factor is about to be found soon. I have some exponents in the 28-29M range done to 60 bits. If you want you can take 28-28.1M to 64 bits. That should keep you busy for over a month. If yes, please post a new thread.
