If you have Linux somehow you'll have access to GNU-Chess -- not the greatest chess playing program, but I bet it can give you a run for your money!

Excellent software, although you would need an older operating system to run it on. At most, it worked on windows 7.

I think there was a chess game that came with windows at one point(10?). in the windows store, "The Chess Lv. 100". I believe this was installed automatically at one point. Hopefully it is free there are other chess games in the store that are free.
