Default High CPU usage!!!

Hello,
When I use Prime95 software on my desktop, the CUP usage is 100% and I fear of hardware issue. How I can decrease CPU usage available to Prime95?

Thanks, Ali

Welcome to the forum. You may find some of the reference info collection useful.
Mprime/prime95 support numerous settings, documented in readme.txt or undoc.txt included with the software.
You could reduce number of workers, number of cores per worker, or employ throttling or time of day restrictions.
However, some of us run multiple systems at ~100% (~50% on hyperthreaded x2 processors, or ~25-30% on hyperthreaded x4 processors such as Xeon Phi) for months or years without apparent damage to hardware. Utility bills will definitely be increased by running compute-intensive software over extended periods. So decide what you're willing & able to spend, and adjust accordingly.

If the machine has adequate cooling there should be no problem running it at 100% continuously. Be sure to keep dust and animal hair around it to a minimum.

Many of us use the 100% loading to test new machines. Detecting problems when the machine is under warranty is good. I found that a brand new laptop had some bad memory. I exchanged it and tested the new one right away.

100% usage is fine, CPU is designed for that.
If the temperature climbs too high, CPU will automatically reduce the load to manage temperatures. Similar as car engine thermostat works to ensure coolant is always at 90c temperature.

No worries, keep using your CPU as is, 100% is normal.

Prime95 has options for number of workers and number of threads per worker. You can set these in combination such that not all your cores are assigned to Prime95 even when the computer is idle. Have a look at undoc.txt to see explanations for some of these options.

I disagree with the posters who explained that it's always ok to run CPU at 100%; I've had many a cheap laptop with poor cooling designs that are definitely not designed for full-power CPU use on a continuous basis. I do agree that any desktop box should run at 100% indefinitely, like 24/7 for years, without any problem beyond a need to de-dust the inside every few months.
