It's a little complicated... For some reason, the "Special Operation" was not correctly modeled...

I read today that Russia turned off gas to a major pipeline feeding Germany et al. As part of a "scheduled maintenance". People are freaking out if this maintenance might take longer than expected...

Yes... Everyone should be energy self-sufficient... But, not everyone (currently) is.

Getting to "There" takes time. And configuring atoms. And a *whole* lotta money (including paying people who actually know how this stuff actually works)!!!

Hey... Just retrofitting a building (big or small) to use electricity rather than gas is a non-trivial exercise.

If nothing else, this is a "Learning Opportunity".

I'm planning to cut back on how much factoring etc I do, once I've finished factoring a few numbers I've already ECMed.

This is mainly to cut Putin's scope to hurt Europe, not just to save money. It won't make much difference but every little helps.

In today's news, the scheduled maintenance was announced in our state media as it was an unexpected interrupt. Why though? It was known well in advance.

Germany is really dumb regarding nuclear power. Even running the existing nuclear fuel for longer than planned is deemed highly risky, while there is literally no reason to and there is logical reasoning why this might even reduce our nuclear waste worries.

Yeah... This is to be expected. Those who report don't actually understand what's going on. And it is useful to keep everyone confused and afraid.

Again... It all comes down to a simple cost-benifit analysis.

If the Plant is already build, use it for as long a possible.

Please forgive me for this, but what part of "Sunk Cost" isn't clear?

To whom? To our elected leaders? Yes, unfortunately.

Edit: "Yes" meaning "practically everything".

This was the argument for restarting Three Mile Island, Unit 1. I believe it was shut down for service when Unit 2 went sideways. The people in nearby Middletown, PA, were all up in arms over the decision. Started in 1974, it ran until 2019 even though the operating license from the NRC was valid until 2034.

Again... It's a little complicated...

Very few in elected positions actually understand how things actually work. All they care about is the power. They have "staff" for the other stuff...

I have found that those who "speak truth to power" /try/ to steer things in the correct direction. But this often isn't possible based on the many different dimentions in the calculas which isn't shared with us.

Sucks to be us. Try to do good, and you're told you don't understand the full picture.

Perhaps we actually understand things so well that we've blown their minds.

Non-zero probability.

Wow! Your "little corner" seems to be the right place for distributed computing
Does that include all taxes?

It's that with an additional "Power Cost Adjustment." The website says the total is around $0.10 kWh

Have stopped DC since last January.
Gas boiler schedules reduced alongside flow temperature and tweak to the heating and hot water slopes. TRV's adjustments were also carried out, position 3 to 4 downstairs, upstairs to 2. Desired rooms temperature of 18 degC only. Use of more layers of clothes, like the old times back in my country.
