Bees

The small, derelict shed in our backyard seems to have been taken over by bees this year!

We would like to remove them without killing the hive as bees seem to be having a generally bad time these days. If there are any beekeepers nearby, would it be a good idea to reach out to them for assistance? Maybe there are other options we haven't considered?

You may have a County Ag board. Also talk to them. Yes, local bee keepers can figure out the bees and will have the tools to handle them. We recently discovered a hive in the making at work. We had a person on staff that was trained in bee keeping. They came out and extracted the bits of comb and put them in a "bee box" and relocated them a few major distance units away. They had the gloves and hat with veil. I stood by with a tool to deal with the situation if it got crazy.

Fortunately some of my mom's coworkers are really into beekeeping, so they came out and did a bunch of work to relocate them! They're leaving a box overnight that the bees should all go into, I think they put a bunch of honeycombs and maybe the queen in there so the workers should follow them in. That is quite a bit of comb there. Nice to see them rescued. You didn't want to go in for some macro photos?
