No mfaktc uses too much cpu resources, but you can run gpuowl (PRP/LL or P-1)and prime95 at the same time with maybe 1-5% slowdown on (at least on a Vega64 or Radeon VII).

I disagree. It is not true, at least not always. When I run mfaktc, it uses only up to 1% of the CPU, which is basically nothing, considering 12 cores, so Prime95 will barely notice something.

If someone has 4 cores, then there might be bigger issues, but in that case, the speed is already pretty low, so the slowdown will again be barely noticeable, IMO.

I have 8 cores, maybe that's the cause of a little bit higher slowdown.

That's me. And yes, it's pretty much negligible given how long it takes to do a PRP.

EDIT: Just did a quick test. ms/iter are about 1% lower without mfaktc.

I guess you have AMD Ryzen™ 9 5900X 3.7GHz [4.8GHz Turbo] 12 Cores/ 24 Threads 70MB Total Cache 105W Processor with GeForce RTX™ 3090 24GB GDDR6X, correct me if I guess not expensive enough.

Threadripper CPUs have at least 24 cores, so a decent video card will guarantee the ultimate dual performance, thus it's like having 2 assembly lines on each PC.

It's around 14,300 ms/iteration for M168,347,321 on my current PC, took me a full month to finish this PRP, different speed when change the exponent size, I'd like to know the stats of ViliamF's CPU too.

What graphic card do you have? If your GPU is much faster than your CPU, then this can be an issue.

Nope. I think I already made my components known in some previous thread, but if not, I have a Ryzen 9 3900X, RTX 2080Ti, and a Radeon VII. The GPUs are now however mining Ethereum (because unfortunately, money is always needed).

I thought ASICs had essentially made GPUs uneconomic for mining, or am I mistaken?

I have a friend who has loads of solar panels and a wind turbine. I have suggested to him the possibility of mining, but I thought ASICs were so much better than GPUs, that GPUs were a waste of time.

From the little I know about the world of cryptocurrencies, ASICs are superior for Bitcoin, not for Ethereum. I am also mining through NiceHash, which AFAIK mines Ethereum and pays me in Bitcoin.

Can you make enough money to actually pay for the graphics card? Or is it a case of you bought a graphics card for playing games, and it earns you a little money. Clearly if it earns you $25/month, it would take an awful long time to recover the cost of the graphics card.
