From what I have read: It appears the B1 bound should be chosen so that the B1 for P+1 is much greater than the B1 used for ECM assignments (not exactly sure what is the best choice. Of course, with higher B1 bigger factors could be found.). B2 is either given by the user (if bit level is not specified) or given by the same determination as for P-1 if the bit level is given.

Regarding the B1/B2 choice, available RAM is currently the limit for me. I chose B1 as 40 times the B1 of the current ECM work and B2 = 50 * B1. In stage 2, that uses 2GB for already factored exponents around 95k (B1=40M, B2=2000M) and 4GB for already factored exponents around 295k (B1=10M, B2=500M). So e.g. a quad core with 16GB RAM can't go higher than that without running into problems. I actually had to make sure that not all curves go to stage 2 at the same time, or my computer would also run out of memory.

Once again there's a known issue with the nightly data sync (most likely related to P+1 results), waiting for Aaron to fix whatever the problem is before I can run the import.

@James: Maybe you are just doing some testing right now, but https://www.mersenne.ca/exponent/287873 shows some debug info that probably should not be there.

Turns out it was more of a case of
fixing the programmer than the server. It should be better now. |
