Hi, I just reinstalled Win2K to clean up the OS. After downloading all the patches and upgrades, installed all new drivers and defragmented the hard drive, all I get is
"Prime95 has created errors and is being shut down." or blue screen saying "Physical memory dump" and then systems freezes. I deleted the prime95 folder and did a complete reinstall and got the same thing. With the old OS install, I had been running Prime95 for a year. |

Everything else is running fine. I formatted and went back to Win98SE.
I have 2 other machines running perfectly fine on Win2K. The reason I reinstalled in the first place was that I was getting the same errors, but only occassionally. With the newer install, I got them in less than one minute. |

Might be an ACPI issue...
With Win98 you have to force it to use ACPI, but W2K uses it by default... |

I've been thinking and trying to figure out what might be different and I think I came up with it.
I have an Albatron Geforce4 Ti 4200 video card. When I first installed it, I used the Albatron drivers. Later, I used the NVidia drivers. I think this is when my problems started. When I reformatted and reinstalled Win2k, I couldn't find the Albatron CD, so I used the NVidia drivers. And the system failed Prime95 from the get go. Now all I need to do is have the guts to install Win2K and use the Albatron drivers and see. |

It may just be that video card driver, or virtual memory settings.
These have affected me in the past. Since you say you had occasional errors before, maybe you are experiencing errata, (intermitent processor malfunctions) in which case I hope you are still under warranty. I was. |
