What do I need to make people pay attention?
Responses from ASD people especially requested, but NTs please contribute if (after due consideration) you think it may be helpful. |

Oh well...we decided to not travel home for Christmas...now my Christmas meal will have to be the typical British meal: pack of chips, sandwich and chocolate bar.

Perhaps you could ask how you can get people to want to pay attention. Assuming this is in relation to a specific subject or topic, how does it relate to them, in practical terms? Can you give a personal experience that was influenced by it? To illustrate the distinction between "make" and "make to want to," I give an admittedly inapt analogy of dealing with a creature that is not human, but that many people mistakenly try to deal with as though it were human. One time I was walking, and saw a lady trying to get her dog to jump into the back of her station wagon. C'mon, Fido, get in. C'mon. C'mon. Fido kind of looked up when he heard his name, then went back to sniffing the ground. I asked her, "Do you have a ball handy?" She did. She gave it to me. I bounced it in to the back of the station wagon, and the dog ran and jumped in, in pursuit. |

Very astute. There's a huge difference between make meant or interpreted as compel, cause, persuade, or motivate. Plus "talking their language".

We had dinner with our nephew on Wednesday. He became ill on Friday, Positive Covid-19 test on Saturday.
An anxious week of waiting ahead.... and I didn't think 2021 could be worse than 2020 :) |
