Default How do I upgrade to 30.3

So I am new to this sort of and when I downloaded it I got 29.8. I tried to get 30.3 by following the instructions on the download page for existing members, but I had trouble with "Upgrade the software. Stop and exit your current version, then install the new version overwriting the previous version." I got the new version but it didn't override the old version and it acted like it was its own computer, asking for the login ID. Could someone explain to me more specifically what I need to do.

Make sure you stop and exit, not just close the window.
If you are on windows put the zip file in the same folder as your current Prime95. Extract/unzip the files into the same folder. If your unzip utility puts them in a sub folder, just copy and paste them to the main folder. Then restart it.

Copy and paste duplicates the files unnecessarily.
For upgrading, in various cases, see https://www.mersenneforum.org/showpost.php?p=559132&postcount=10

You could explain in your post that prime.txt contains the GIMPS user data, local.txt contains the machine data, worktodo.txt contains the current work (assigned or not), at some times a file named prime.spl which contains the results not yet transmitted to the server might be present, the work files... None of these files is in the archive and will thus not be overwritten but are essential for continuity. There are other user files that are not in the archive neither, but they are less critical (results.txt, results.jason.txt, prime.log, gwnum.txt, ...) Perhaps this is a bit detailed, but it would have answered the OP posted in two different threads ;-) Another way to express it would be to say "Keep all files in the folder since they contain your user and machine data and preferences, your work and results. The only files overwritten will be the programs and version dependant files."
