I find that each CPU and each GPU uses about $20 to $30 per month of electricity here.
I'm using $20 below.

My i7-7820X CPU doing LL/DC: 100 per day; 367 months; $7,333

Mike/Xyzzy, I have a suggestion: edit post #1 to promise that the proceeds will be used for the M-forum webhosting-and-maintenance fund. That would help to at least mitigate the above concerns. "It's still ridiculous to buy someone else's work credit, but the money is going to a good cause".

I didn't read the posts in the thread (except few on the first page), but I will.

I voted the last option, as it includes all the other
(i.e. if any other is right, then the subsequent are right too, as the sum increases, and the poll says "less then", but not "between..."

Joking apart, I would agree with this poll, and bid for it too (with the sum I consider worth) with one condition: the work has to be done starting from now, physically (and verifiable, i.e. I could check the history and see how the "donor" made the credit). Not like George or any gods there just modify my credit score to inflate it and/or/xor deflate the donor's one, with no physical work done. I mean, I don't give a sh!p about credits (in spite of some guys here calling me a credit whore in the past, and me acting towards getting a fame of it ) and neither care much about donations towards the forum or gimps, but real progress in testing, eventually finding new primes, PRPs, large factors, well, that has some appeal to me...

We understood what "the price is right" means. We always avoided those shows, never wasted the time to watch them, with only one exception.

But we won't bid for the credit..

The work is already done, so it won't benefit Gimps or the forum in any way if the credit moves from one user to the other. Except for the donation, but if any of you want to donate something to either Gimps or the forum, then just donate something to Gimps, or the forum. In these difficult times where people stay home, social blah blah, no jobs, etc., it would be even more appreciated. This of course, only if you really can afford it, and really want to do so.

But if you want me to bid for credit, we started on the wrong foot. Let's start again, from scratch. You do 200THz days of LL work for me, starting from now, and I give you US$250. It could be partially P-1 too, but not more than 30%. Other type of work (TF, DC, PRP, ECM, etc) not accepted.

Any takers?

For 200,000 GHzDays, approximately 1/5 of the 1.1M GHzDays, you will pay USD250. Which means you view the 1.1M GHzDays as worth USD1375.

Yes, your calculus is right, except that my price won't scale.

People here were talking about $230 to produce the mega-giga, so that's where I took my price from, without any computation, logic, bargain, etc**. (I just accepted it so) except that I reduced the amount to a fifth (200k G), as that would be (roughly) what would propel me into the hundred percentiles .

But I won't buy half of it, neither 5 times of it, for proportional scaled price.

**I don't think I made it "easier" by reducing it to 1/5, I think it is "harder" due to the fact that I banned work types that produce lots of credits (TF, ECM, etc). That means (in my opinion) 200G of "pure" LL or P-1 is harder than 1.1T of "general credit".

Let's put that into perspective. Running PRP on a Radeon VII, the best FLOPS/Watt-hour setup for GIMPS at present, you need ~5kWh per day to generate 500 GHzDays of GIMPS credit, thus 10kWh per 1000 GHzDays. Using the pricy power, um, prices for my local corrupt private-masquerading-as-public-utility, PG&E, rate is ~$0.25/kWh, thus $2.50 per 1000 GHzDays, thus the power cost - neglecting equipment cost - of LaurV's 200,000 GHzDays would be ~$500.

Thus LaurV's offer would only reach breakeven for somone using such best-of-breed hardware and living somewhere where electricity costs ~$0.10/kWh or less.
