Set the goal of traveling with your child(ten) to every state before they leave the home. We did that with our boys with many long road trips and had a blast. Just have Hawaii and Alaska left. Although they will both be in college this fall, we'll get to those states before they graduate from college.

Try going further afield than just one country. There is so much more on this planet than any one country can offer.

Or even one very tiny 'continent.'

100% agreed. We have also been to 5 Canadian provinces, but visiting all Canadian provinces and territories were not part of the goal.

We cannot afford to take our kids around the world, but my wife and I will be doing more travel off the continent in the future.

I'm curious Paul. How many European countries have you visited?

A few but by no means most. Let me think ...

At least these twelve: at, ch, cz, de, es, fr, ie, mc, nl, pt, sk and uk

Note not one in Scandinavia, eastern Europe or any Mediterranean countries from Italy eastwards.

Elsewhere: at least au, ca, sg, th and us.

None in Africa or South America. The two Asian countries were stop-overs when traveling to conferences in Sydney.

There may be others which have slipped my mind.

WAYY more intense than other hikes in the SoCal area (Mount Baldy for example).
"Boys go to Baldy. Men go to Whitney."

Baldy's still a nice hike, though. I went there on a weekday and reached the top just before 6 PM, so the trail was completely deserted except for one other trail runner going in the opposite direction. It's a strange feeling when you consider that there are around 10 million people living within 50 or so miles (as the crow flies) of Baldy's summit.
