Yah, that's a classic of 80s cheesy-poof space opera ... I loved the "wedding vows" scene with the lovely Flash-Gordon-GF Dale Arden:

(Best part of the latter movie for me, though, is the great musical score by Basil Polidouros.) Last fiddled with by ewmayer on 2020-03-09 at 18:43 |

I was actually thinking of Dune (1984 version). "Where there is spice and spice mining, there are always worms." |

This is a two times very sad piece of news...
First because he died, and second, because he lost the bet... So I can't get the 10 bucks to put in a frame and sell them in 25 years for a million... (to naysayers, I am sure he would appreciate this joke) Rest in peace Sir... Last fiddled with by LaurV on 2020-03-12 at 04:45 |

According with my knowledge, it was extended for another 6 years or so after his "appeal" (that's why all the fuss, and this is also mentioned in the referred thread here). The extension was some kind of courtesy to him, and to his age and work, like some bet he would never have to pay. But my memory may play tricks on me. I have a very good memory, but I don't remember where I put it.
Anyhow, losing him is very sad. I mean, at 104, it was somehow expected, and most of us will not live to reach that age, but still, it is quite sad to hear that he is gone. The "Guy's law of small numbers" could make an exception... if you know what I mean... Few weeks ago, before hearing about his death, I randomly went to re-watch Numberphile's videos with John Conway, the game of life, and the "monsters", you know how is it, one click here, one there, and you are suddenly lost in youtube, and for some odd reasons, those subjects always ring a bell in my head... Well.. Rest in peace, again. I can't say more. Last fiddled with by LaurV on 2020-03-13 at 03:25 |
