My solution was a cheap GPU mining rig: Temps dropped 10C-15C. The downside is you must keep pets and young children away. It wouldn't be terribly hard to construct a screen around the unit. |

My Radeon VII is using about 1GB of the 16GB on the card. Is that normal?

Thanksgiving sales on Newegg:
Link (this links to Newegg) Actually never heard of XFX, how long does it take for Radeon VII to finish a LL/PRP test say on a 90M exponent? Very tempting to sell my dual 2080s for dual RX 580s. PSU still have lots of juice left .

XFX only make AMD cards not nvidia, they've been around for a while. Years ago they used to be the go-to for quality, their recent efforts have not been good. This doesn't matter for the Radeon VII as XFX and any other brand that sells Radeon VII is just putting a sticker on the reference design. A 90M exponent can be done in about a day: https://www.mersenneforum.org/showpo...5&postcount=76
Selling dual 2080's for dual 580's would be a bold move, you might prefer dual Radeon VII's instead ;) |

I can totally forseen myself in euphoria after installing two radeon vii in place of 2080s. Sure, I am not going to get 1000fps playing aoe2 or borderlands 3 on ultra or something, but hey I get to finish 2 LL every 1.5 days which equates to about 480 LL a year.

A bit bummed. Today I plugged my Windows box into Kill-A-Watt.
Best I can tell Kill-A-Watt shows gpuowl drawing an extra 240 watts over an idling Radeon VII. Wattman shows the card drawing only 190 watts. The box has a Platinum power supply. Anyone else observing such a discrepancy between Wattman readings and at-the-wall power draw? |

About 80% efficient. This is with a EVGA Supernova 750 P2, 80+ Platinum power supply, also running a 1070ti doing TF at 110W, and an i5-9400F running mprime. Last fiddled with by mrh on 2019-12-03 at 23:02 |
