This web page shows objects that are of increasing size from a person to the universe.
One hits the right arrow key to go forward. It's pretty neat! The first time I saw something like this in the 1990s was a book that a friend had which did the same thing as you turned the pages. https://neal.fun/size-of-space/ |

Space is big, and atoms are small. If one light year were a meter...
... the distance between the pitcher and the batter on a baseball field (~18 m / ~60 ft) would be the diameter of a proton (~2 fm / femtometers) ... a ~6 hour drive from Chicago to Minneapolis (~657 km / ~408 miles) would be the radius of a carbon atom (~70 pm) ... a ~4 hour commercial flight from New York to Denver (~2610 km / ~1620 miles) would be the diameter of a water molecule (~275 pm) ... the average distance from the Earth to the Moon would be the length of a virus, or the wavelength of UV rays (~40 nm) ... the minimum distance from Earth to Mars would be the length of a human red blood cell, or 3 times the length of an E. Coli bacterium (6 microns / micrometers) ... the average distance from the Sun to Pluto would be the length of a grain of sand (~0.6mm) ... the distance from Earth to the nearest star outside our solar system would be the length of a room (~4.25m / ~14 ft) ... the average thickness of the Milky Way would be slightly larger than the height of the world's tallest skyscraper (~1 km / ~0.6 miles) ... the diameter of the Milky Way would be the cities, suburbs, and exurbs of a large metropolitan area (~150 km / ~93 miles) ... the distance from Earth to the nearest galaxy (aside from the Milky Way) would be a straight line distance from London to Moscow (~2500 km / ~1553 miles) ... the diameter of the Local Group of galaxies (containing the Milky Way) would be the distance from the Earth's equator to the North Pole (~10,000 km / ~6200 miles) ... the diameter of the Local Supercluster / Virgo Supercluster would be ~2.7 trips around the earth, or ~29% of the distance from the earth to the moon (~110,000 km / ~68,400 miles) ... the distance from Earth to the most distant galaxy observed (GN-z11) would be ~800 trips around the Earth, ~83 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon, or ~84% of the distance between Earth and Venus at their closest approach (~32,000,000 km / ~20,000,000 miles) ... the diameter of the observable universe would be ~2330 trips around the Earth's equator, ~243 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon, ~1.7 times the closest distance between Earth and Mars, or ~62% of the distance between the Earth and the Sun (~93,000,000 km / ~58,000,000 miles) |
