That grandmaster needs 2000 kcal/day = 23.15 cal/sec = 96.9 J/s = 96.9 W

So the power consumption is a little less than 100 W.

The computer portion of the GM takes about 20-25W, almost all of it to drive the sodium pumps.

Yes, an amazingly large fraction of the human energy budget is used in the brain.

http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu...mo/coobod.html

For air conditioning purposes 100W per person is a good rule of thumb. Often it may be needed to pre-chill a space (get the air, walls, and furnishings a few degrees colder than the normally desired temp.) to handle the sudden heat load when a crowd shows up. I have done this before for weddings. A sudden onset of 125 bodies at 100W each (carrying in June air and slightly high body temps and motion) into a space will heat it noticeably. Not good to have the bride sweat.

Don't forget that if this internal chess engine is indeed feasible then the grandmasters of the future are likely to be top physical athletes with much higher energy throughput than the best chess players of the present day. Perhaps a gruelling tournament game may cost the energy expended in competing in a leg of the Tour de France or running a marathon.

A pregnant woman has no serious difficulty running one or more internal computers.

True. Very efficient learning machines they are too.
But my point is not that a top athlete would be needed to run an internal computer, but that we can assume that the most accomplished chess players will be top athletes. So multiply those figures which have been bandied about (25W, 100W) by a factor of say 3 or 4 to estimate the power supplied to internal chess engines in the bodies of future grandmasters playing tournament games.

Speaking of Faraday cages: another problem (you will have to mouse over the comic to get the problem)

It's not clear to me. You may very well be correct and I can't point to anything wrong with your analysis.

OTOH, by the time we can (realistically) build organic-powered chess computers suitable for enhancing the one which comes naturally in a human body, I'd suggest that all bets are off. Human enhancements are likely to be wide-ranging and customised for purpose, so those who are then top athletes are unlikely also to be at the head of the field in intellectual pursuits. My opinion, anyway.

Let's suggest another solution then...

All championships are held inside bank vaults. At least 30 cm of solid ferrous materials on all sides. The ultimate Faraday Cage.

The players are provided with as much food and water as they desire, but must fast for at least two hours before the game.

No play will be broadcast until ten plays after the play.

That might, just, cover all possible cheats currently....

Besides the much simpler ones, like bribery. [Just bribe the referee to put a hidden computer somewhere in the vault.]
