Most of this is over my head, but...
I had a friend who used a water mister on his air conditioner that only operated when the machine was pulling in air. The water was just regular faucet water which came from underground pipes. Because of the coldness of the water and the expansion from the misting, the temperature of the air was decreased by about 10 degrees(Fahrenheit, unfortunately) in the hot summer days, which frequently get into the 90s(again Fahrenheit). Misters use very little power, most of the expense is in the maintenance and installation. |

Otherwise the AC unit spends slightly more energy removing the water from the air before introducing it to the humans and/or the machines. Interestingly, humans' perception of temperature is a function of humidity (because they sweat). And machines don't like moisture for obvious reasons. |

Recommended efficient conservative measures were: replace the UPS systems to more efficient ones, current have more than 15 years, and add EC fans to the cooling fans.

Another bit I’ve managed to achieve was to create an M&V report where the data centre cooling avoided energy is guaranteed. Baseline model for cooling in function of two independent variables (cooling degree days, IT load) with precision of 10% with a level of confidence of 95%. Fun stuff!
