Is it possible to have prime95 and mlucas at the same time. I have right now a Ryzen 5 1600x cranking numbers with prime95, 1 worker on 6 cores, and I have a gtx 960 that I want to run to. How much cpu do I need to run the gpu. Can I run both at the same time. Or should I just run one of them?

You can use your CPU and GPU at the same time.
Yes, use Prime95 (or mprime for linux). But for your GPU, instead of mlucas, there are different programs to use. GPU's are killer at Trial Factoring. Some are good for LL testing. But factoring is where they shine. This thread https://mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=22450 in the GPU Computing forum tells you which program does which for which type of card. There are threads for each of the types of testing. |

See https://www.mersenneforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=154. I recommend starting with the Mersenne Prime gpu computing reference thread (sticky at the top), post 2, pdf attachment. The gpu applications use a gpu nearly fully, while using very little cpu. The exceptions to that are startup, saving intermediate results to disk, producing screen output, and some occasional computation portions like gcd in CUDAPm1, which use the cpu. The effect of the one cpu core usage of CUDAPm1 gcd is to pause temporarily one prime95/mprime worker.

Yes, running Ryzen 3 2200G and RTX 2080 - mprime on the CPU and mfaktc or CUDALucas on the GPU. There is a very small slowdown on mprime when the GPU task is running, especially mfaktc on a lot of short runs, but it's maybe 1% or less, so it's pretty much worth ignoring. There is no effect the other way around though, stopping or running mprime has no effect on GPU performance.
