Default Throttle CPU to avoid fan noise in the daytime

In the daytime the fan noise disturbs and I want to throttle a little bit the CPU so that the fan makes acceptable noise. I think Intel'sTurbo Boost is reponsible for the higher noise.

At night the CPU can run with full power and with full fan noise.

Is it possible to set such a schedule with Prime95?

Sort of. You can accomplish it by running two instances of Prime95 with different schedules.
By going to Options/CPU, you can set the number of hours that the program will run.
Unfortunately, the two instances will need to work on different exponents.

look for PauseWhileRunning in undoc.txt. You can pause one or two workers during daytime.

Other options:
- you may reduce the CPU frequency a bit (e.g. 5 to 10%) in bios, usually this produces large power savings (thus heat reduction)
- better air flow to the computer case (case fan, or open case cover)
- locate the case close to the ground (air is a bit cooler), and with the hot exhaust pointing up (natural convection)
- shape the CPU fan curve in bios. See if it's safe to run the CPU hotter on less fan.

For windows atleast, you can also set/reduce the CPU frequency inside the OS by going to Control Panel>Power Options>Change Plan Settings>Change Advanced Power Settings then fiddling around with processor power management. FYI, setting the maximum processor state to 99% disables any "boosting" and sets the clocks to default.
