Towards that goal, could I please ask those who are currently LLTF'ing to lower levels (read: 73 or 74 "bits") to consider doing a bit of DCTF'ing for a while? It should only take a few months to clear out 58M and 59M to 74. Note that this is still "economically optimal" for any nVidia GPU in the GTX 10xx class or better.

Once this is done we can consider doing 57M and possibly 56M. Then DCTF should be done for good (unless and until, of course, 20xx GPUs become a larger percentage of the "fleet"; damn those beasts are good at TF'ing!).

Entirely up to each individual participant, of course. It's your kit / time / electrons / money. Do whatever rocks your world....
Should we include those in the 66-69M range not yet at 75 bits?

I /could/ bring them in after everything below 60M is TF'ed "optimally" if people are interested, but please note that only for a 20xx class card does that "make sense" (hover over the yellow line at the 68M point)....

Last fiddled with by chalsall on 2019-02-01 at 13:39 Reason: s/60M point/68M point/;

Sigh... At this rate we're *never* going to finish DCTF... First we had to go at it again because George and Oliver implemented sieving on the GPU, which bumped up the economic cross-over points, and now nVidia have released a new class of GPU which chews through TF'ing like a hot knife through butter!!!

OK, let's talk about this...

First of all, how many GPU72 participants have (or plan to purchase) a "compute V7.5" class card?

Second, how many want to do DCTF'ing? For a 2080 Ti, for example, it still "makes sense" to TF to 75 "bits" all the way down at 51M and upwards (at 55M it is clearly optimal; below it's borderline).

There is always the issue of balancing what is "optimal" vs. what is "achievable". What I would propose is we first clear out below 60M to 74 bits, and then perhaps work from 55M and up to 75.

Thoughts?

I am running my card at half speed right now, with mmff on the other half, and had a backlog of 90M exponents to do. I can easily turn all cores to 5xM

Anyway, just let me know what do you prefer I do with my 2060.

Do whatever you want to do.

Unless and until there is a substantial percentage of new kit in the "fleet", it doesn't make much sense to DCTF to 75. Better to LLTF to 77.

If I had money for it...

I'm trying to put two GTX 580's back in service. We're already going to higher levels than optimal for me, but I don't care too much.

I think Wayne just wants to beat me on the DCTF charts

Naw, I just have free electricity. One died, and the other has been overheating, so I'm going to try replacing the thermal compound and thermal pads of both and see where I get. The other two are still cranking away at the office.

At home, I still have to open the balcony door to cool it down inside. My CPUs and GPUs produce about 1600 watts of heat.

Come on, we're more modern than that, we use snowmobiles (or snowmachines, depending what part of the bush you're from) to get around these days.

(said only mostly in jest, I've lived in a number of northontario towns where the winter road traffic is about 50:50 Skidoo & F-150)
