Does anybody but me find it hilariously funny that the probable discovery of a Great Prime [TM] is surrounded by a wealth of inane commentaries and emoticons? I guess it's a sign of the times.
As a contributor to the overall electronic mayhem I'm certainly not rejecting it, but still, as a former social science researcher, I find it genuinely interesting. And yet, the Royal Academy of the late 17th century probably wasn't as far removed from the spirit of the day as we'd often like to imagine. Somehow, the academic spirit may have come around the circle from a rather solemn interlude. Anyway, if we got a new Big Prime, Congratulations to George and everyone! /Leif |

Can't remember how long it took to ship, usual shipping times. The longest wait was for them to actually create the posters after the prime was announced. Shipping to Canada is included in the cost they ask for. Jeff. |

Possible New Mersenne Prime! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On February 18, 2005, a new Mersenne prime was reported to the PrimeNet server! An independent verification is underway with completion expected this weekend. The new prime is not 10 million digits - so the EFF award is still up for grabs. The number is larger than the current largest known prime number. |

The two verifications are up to iteration 8 million. Tony reports he's increased Glucas' speed by 30%. If all goes well, his verification could complete very late Friday!

... and of course knowing which number to test helps speed up the verification a lot!
