I can't join in your game because I don't yet have a suitable telescope --- my main scope is purely CCD --- but one sub the other night has a satellite trail right across it. Luckily it missed the variable and the comparison stars.

Here is a shot from my mobile of a re-entry burn. The landing burn was not visible where I was. I have enhanced it, then downsized it and set the jpg to 90% to fit the requirements of the forum attachment size.

Next time I go to see a launch, I will plan on bringing the extra lens for my phone. (Or a real camera with a glass zoom.)

Very Nice- I would love to see a re-entry, and even better, an actual landing. Would definitely bring a real camera for that. I got tickets once in the NASA lottery for one of the last Shuttle launches, but one delay after another pushed it out beyond our trip window, and we missed out. The trip out there was well worth the time and money though.

I had a similar experience with Endeavour's last flight. I was on the causeway by Port Canaveral waiting for the launch. When I heard about the delay, I waited and for how soon they might recycle. It was 72 hours at best. I had 24 hours available easy, 48 was tight, but doable, 72 hours was a no way.

The re-entry photo was on a Samsung S5 with nothing else attached.

I thought I'd join in. I still don't have a cell phone hooked up to a telescope but I do have an SBIG-8XE which was imaging CC Cancri earlier this morning. Here is the fourth of a series of subs which will be analyzed in due course. The satellite missed the variable and the comparisons so the image is still usable for photometry but it would have ruined a pretty-picture style of image.

Just out of interest, what is your opinion of the Orbital Reflector launched on Monday?

A needless fouling of the commons? Or does "Look! Shiny!" actually help promote space fairing?

I would also vote "The Former". I looked at their website, and read a few articles about it. If they want to say it is Art for Art's sake, OK; its very hard to argue what is and isn't art, since that's very personal. But their claims and justifications seem pretty contrived and self-important. "It makes visible the invisible, thereby rekindling our imaginations and fueling potential for the future." If to them, the Orbital Reflector is Art; fine, say that. But I don't really think its going to rekindle or fuel much of anything. And its going to mess up someone else's images and measurements.
