Probably the most math intensive part is prioritizing the multiplication over summation.
The rest is a matter of having sharp youthful eyes.
I think It is safe to conclude that GP2 is either a youngster or a form of AI specialising in image recognition.

Yes that is correct. I got 67 on the first try but when I looked again it seemed way too easy.

This part is ambiguous, and requires making some assumptions.

That puzzle was simple. Weren't we all taught that multiplication comes before addition or subtraction?

I always like to write this on the upper right of my whiteboard when I'm teaching:

\sqrt{-1}^2 = ?

That's the simple part, but the non-simple part lives up to its name, I would argue.

Supermods sadly can't ignore you, even if they wanted to.

It was a fascinating experience looking at the puzzle while I was in the process of waking up. This was some days after it had been posted, so I knew what the right answer was. I figured it would be easy to check.

I thought I had the symbols all figured out, but the answer didn't seem to come out right. I looked bleared closer at the last row. Waidaminnit, those suckers in the last row are different! OK, they're not the same as the symbols I'd already figured out, and they only appear once, so what are they supposed to signify? And why? Hmm... OK, got it! Let's see... 38. Check!

I just wanted to make a comment as to the high quality of the reasoning in the individuals who have posted.

And let me do this by making a simple comparison.

Suppose for a brief moment this same puzzle is placed in a medium like Facebook.

First of all, 8n FB you would probably have five, six or more wrong answers before someone would put the correct one. 38 Here it was the second answer.

Second, nobody would agree or accept that what was posted *38* was the correct answer.

Third, after a lot of argument, the person that posted the correct answer -or someone else- who agreed with it would have to explain in detail HOW do they arrive at the result *38*

After that, several lines of defensive argumentation would evolve. Included but not limited to faulty math as to the order of precedence of arithmetic operations. Some would dismiss the whole puzzle as a gimmick and in general, no consensus would ever arrive.

On this forum, as it is evident, NONE has even asked how you arrive at 38. Everyone involved seems to agree that that is the CORRECT answer and none has thought (correctly) that there is any need to explain how you arrive at 38.

Nobody has insulted nobody either overtly or by implication and that is such a difference from what might have happened in FB.
