Party anyone?

We are getting close to hitting 500 registered users. Maybe we should party or something when we get there. #GIMPS chat open for 24 hours?

I don't know. Just didn't want the milestone to slip by unnoticed. :)

I made us an IRC chat room that is semi-permanent... You can kinda follow the instructions in this thread to get there, except substitute the following information...

Server = artemis.arstechnica.com
Room = #gimps

There is a Java-based web chat portal here...

I'm "parked" there so if you want to try it out drop on by...

In a few days we'll coordinate another date and time for a party... :)

Alright, we're at 500! The 500th member registered May 16, 2003, sometime before 14:41 GMT.

Remember that quite a few of those accounts are "bogus" ones that were never activated...

I'd look through the memberlist to see how many accounts we have that have posted at least once...

Edit: It looks like 298...

But no matter how you look at it, we still are overdue for an IRC party, so how about next Sunday (May 25th) at 0400 UTC? That would be a bit early in the morning for our friends in Europe, midnight for the people on the east coast, 9PM for the west coast people and 5PM (or so) in the afternoon for Asia...

Just a note about the Java portal...

You have to join one of the preset rooms and then switch to ours... Just type

/join #gimps

and you will switch to ours... It may be a good idea to try now rather than wait until the last minute to see how it works!
