The (non-default) extended tests for Memtest86 will test the the memory cell's ability to maintain a charge... This is all explained in the Memtest86 documentation...

I ran the extended tests as well. The default tests ran all night and looped 24 times, the extended tests I ran the next night and they looped 7 times, no errors either time.

I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!! again i thank to those who've offered advise to my problem over the last couple of days....... so what do u think the reason for Prime failing on my pc was? CPU....no, motherboard....no, RAM (like we all thought it was)....NO, drivers.....NO......it was the............GRAPHICS CARD, i was amazed when i discovered this, it was on pure chance that i change the graphics card because i couldnt think of anything else left to change, i was gona RMA the CPU and the motherboard.

what a turn up for the books. glad to see you've fixed your problem with the RAM, Mr C, let us all run prime95 24 hours to celebrate

Cheers to that!

By the way, did you change chipset manufacturs on your graphics cards, ie ATI to nVidia or nVidia to ATI? I thought it was my old vid card causing my problem too, but it resurfaced with the new card soon enough. If you've totally eliminated your ram as the problem though then it most likely is the vid card. Although, the vid card probably isn't bad, its just a software or hardware conflict.

well no there both ATI, heres the story ive just bought my new system 3500+, western Digital Raptor HHD, Abit AV8, etc, but i can only afford a new graphics card + high spec RAM in march (when i get my next student loan installment ) so i was using my ATi Radeon 9000, now ive had to go back to the Rage, which seems to have solved the problem. ive just finished running a 7 hour Prime torture test setting on Blend, where as before (with the 9000 installed) it constanlty failed at the first test...... mystery to me, i thought Prime only tested CPU + Memory not graphics cards, well least boht our problems are solved ... at long last

Is the Rage card the right voltage for that AGP slot? I guess you would have known by now if it wasn't, something would have smelled bad :)
