We peaked ~75% here in the SF Bay area. First thing I noticed (at ~50% occultation) was that I needed to turn my bathroom light on to shave - normally enough light comes in the window at that time of day to allow me to do that by natural light. Headed out right around the peak at 10:15, it was plenty light out but had that odd 'silvery' quality I've become familiar with from similar partial eclipses in the past. (E.g. one in the mid-90s, when I lived in NE Ohio, which had a similar level of occultation at that location.) On the way ran into some neighbors, briefly borrowed a pair of cardboard eclipse-viewers from them, got a nice view of the 'crescent sun'.
No one organized any human sacrifices in my area, though, rather a disappointment compared to eclipses past. |

![]() I used a "pinhole projector" made from a cardboard box to view the eclipse safely, though indirectly (I wasn't in the path of totality). Unfortunately, I only had a small box handy, so the image wasn't very big. Still, it was more than adequate to see the sun turning from a circular disc to a crescent, then back to circular again. The speckles of light that get through foliage, etc also give "pinhole projector" images of the sun's disc (or crescent, during an eclipse). |

At work we got to observe from the roof deck. Unfortunately, nearly solid overcast developed right about the local time of contact. There were glimpses. One coworker made a pinhole camera from a cereal box, and there were cardboard glasses about. I saw through some glasses after max occlusion.

Hi Mersenneforum,
I witnessed the eclipse through glasses and it looked cool. I didn't get any pictures. Regards, Matt |

It seems that the ancient Maya culture much preferred to sacrifice kings or other high-ranking captives who came from rival cities.
It is a funny tweet, though. |

We waited until 4th contact to leave and have been in the worst traffic I have ever seen. Will have been 7 hours to go what took us 1 and 40 to go in the morning. Still worth it.

I went to Madras OR. Awesome experience totality was so cool. I was actually with 100 yards of the line of maximum totality at that longitude. And also just milliseconds away from 2' 02" standard. I'll try posting pictures if I figure how to do that.
Then 4 hours of hell on hwy 26 to Portland. Not fun at all.
