FreeBSD vs. Linux

Hi,

I have switched to FreeBSD 4.8R recently, and now my mprime 22.12 client needs about three times longer than the Linux version, continuing at the same point the Linux client stopped a few days ago.

I don't think it's a mistake of measurement, because indeed 10000 iterations now need about 30 minutes, while it was exactly 10 minutes before.

Any ideas what I can do about that?

Is this necessary also for RedHat 8.0, or does tat disttribution come already compiled for SSE2 support?

Hm, I believe that under Linux you won't need to change the kernel to make SSE possible. That's FreeBSD-only specialty.

Note that compiling a new kernel in FreeBSD is very trivial...

This lack of SSE in the default kernel is a feature, not a bug... :)

Probably you are right... ;)

I'd be interested in why this feature is only documented in the release notes of 4.4R, and for what reasons it might exist.

It surely would be a good idea to make a comment in the docs of mprime... :D
