Reading the Wiki account set me on course for the Edmund Fitzgerald story. I followed up with sections on Great Lakes freighters, in general. It has been a very educational couple of hours.

Thanks for the nudge in the direction of ships, and disasters involving them, Nick.

When I started reading this update and others, I was shocked at being reminded of the ugly details of the sinking. From The Guardian:
