Regardless, it's running. It's factoring a large candidate that would have taken probably a day with Prime95. It's going to do it in less than three hours.

Thank you for your assistance. It's much appreciated.
It is good to hear that you tracked down the issues!

Not necessarily. The one I have been running is the 65 compile. The 80 compile will not run, says 'access denied,' and deletes itself. I don't know what Cuda build my adapter is running, and I can't seem to find a way to determine that. I can understand why an application would refuse to run if its support libraries are not correct. Deleting itself is another matter. The research continues. I will find an answer. I always like a challenge.

Those are some very strange actions. I hope you get a handle on them.

I posed a similar question on TechSupportForum. This is the reply I got back from a Microsoft rep:

Quote:
Log in as your normal user. Open a cmd as admin (go to start, search and type:- cmd right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator").

At the cmd prompt copy paste (the text in red):-

takeown /F C:\mfaktc (press enter)

You should receive a success message "c:\mfaktc now owned by user (here will appear your logged on user name)"

Next at the cmd prompt type:-

icacls c:\mfaktc /grant ( type your user name (the one that appears from the first cmd):F (press enter)

As an example my user name is Vistatest\Paul so the cmds look like this

takeown /F C:\mfaktc (pressed enter) result is:-

SUCCESS: The file (or folder): "C:\mfaktc" now owned by user "VISTATEST\Paul"

Next I type:- icacls c:\mfaktc /grant vistatest\paul:f (pressing enter)

I get:-

processed file: c:\mfaktc
Successfully processed 1 files; Failed processing 0 files.

In addition right click on the executable mfaktc.exe and select properties if under the general tab you see an option to "unblock" select this go back to the executables properties, right click and this time select "run as administrator"
I haven't tried it yet, but I will let you know how it goes. Oh, I saved all this in a text file in case I run across this again.

Those are the instructions to take ownership and grant full security permissions from the command line as opposed to right-click and 'properties' thru the Windows GUI. I wouldn't expect those to result in anything different if you've already taken or verified that you have ownership and full security permissions earlier, but good luck!

If you go to your control panel, do you have an icon for Windows Defender? If you double-click it, does it tell you that it's off, or open it up and provide options? I don't use it, so am not overly familiar with the settings, but that's probably what is either deleting or quarantining (moving) your mfaktc program when you run it.

There were so many other things going on here that I decided to take a somewhat extreme step. I made a backup of all my data and file folders and then cleaned the drive off and installed Win 7 (x64). When I bought my original DVD, I ordered one with both types, i86 and x64. Although I have not completed the re-installation of all my applications, I've had no problems with running mfaktc x64 Cuda 80. I am still a bit leery of renaming it, so I won't. That was when I was having the issues. I also wondered about Windows Firewall, if it was causing some type of issue.
