That makes sense; and, indeed, with the factors of 2 removed from the polynomial the matrix build works fine. Just for reassurance I am rerunning with the factors of 2 removed but without futzing around with the relations file, and expect that to work fine too (update: it is working fine). Thanks for your help, and I'm sorry that version of my polynomial-creating script made such a dumb error.

Maybe msieve should issue a warning (or error) if gcd(Y1,Y0) != 1 and/or gcd(f[6],...,f[0]) != 1 ?

I notice on the 15e status page that this particular number is marked as having an SNFS difficulty of 253.77. Where did that value come from? It's the correct value if one uses the right polynomial, but with the polynomial that was actually used (as it appears in the .poly file on the server), it looks like the difficulty should be 277.85. So how did the difficulty that goes with the right poly show up with the wrong poly?
