Hi whatever your name is,
I am sick and tired of deleting your useless posts, and so have sent a complaint to the directors of the company that makes the drugs that you advertise Quote:

Given the frequency with which the spam was posted, I tend to believe it was automated and the spammers will never see this thread. But it does feel good to vent so...
GO AWAY YOU IDIOT SPAMMERS! ![]() Ahhh. That felt good. |

Some VBulletin Forums in the english-speaking world are currently under attack by this and at least one other bot, but it might be a group of silly teenager too, as the list of hit-words is not known yet.

Props to Prime Monster for cleaning up the forum so well. I started catching up on reading new posts yesterday afternoon, got interrupted, then finished just now, and I didn't see a single spam post - I didn't even know what this thread was about! Well done. So, I take it when you delete a new post from an otherwise old thread, it drops back to being 'old'? Could you or Mike ban the ip/host of the bot, or does it change? It might be smart for the server to keep a rolling list of recent posters ip's, based on quantity. Then when something like this happens, you could ban them fast. Hmm, perhaps a way to delete all posts from a single source? But that's harder to do with 'guest' posters, right? They could at least do us the courtesy of registering before spamming us

You are right, they drop back again when I delete the spam. I've talked to Mike about it and he is looking into banning the offenders using IP addresses, the problem is the guest account.
I thought that by limiting the spammers to a few open threads I could contain them and make it less interesting. From my point of view it looks like real people, rather than bots. I guess I have deleted something in the range of 150 to 200 entries so far :-( PM |

We can't figure out how to ban by IP address, and the other ban form is for users who are registered.
We think locking the threads on page 2 and deeper is reasonable. Most of the threads in this section are quick questions and answers. If someone wants to read the main vBulletin forums and figure out a fix, please do so: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/ |

You could always ban the IP address at the firewall level.
