Disk full? I've had "error writing intermediate file" when no disk space was left.

Please, does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this problem? This is a 3.055GHz computer. If it stops working for me, I will have a much more difficult time "achieving my goals".
By the way, I'm quite sure the hard disk is nowhere near full. That computer has over 30GB of space, and I think it wasn't even half full when I left. In any case, I couldn't imagine my family installing things that would take more than 10GB of space. |

After checking that, check that permissions and read/write flags are set OK. What is the OS? Consider setting up something like terminal services so you can log on from UCLA and control the computer from there to try things yourself. |

Thanks, I will ask my dad to check the hard disk space. As before, I really don't know what's going on. The computer worked just fine for nearly 2 years while I was in Hong Kong.
The OS is Windows XP Professional (I think its SP1, but I'm not sure). Unfortunately, I don't know how to set up remote access. I am planning to visit home during Christmas holidays, but that's about 2 months away, so if a fix has to wait until then, a lot of work will be lost. My goal is to get into the Top 1000 (Primality Testing). I'm currently ranked #1100. I will definitely get there a lot faster if I can get that computer working. By the way, the incorrect MHz number on the account page seems to be fixed now. My new computer is now correctly listed as 1596 MHz. Last fiddled with by jinydu on 2004-10-24 at 06:17 |

You can turn on remote desktop easy... Right click "My Computer" and hit properties... One of the tabs is for remote access...
All you need is the IP address to connect from another XP box, and you can even use a Linux box to connect with rdesktop... If you have the XP firewall turned on, you need to allow the remote desktop service to go through... This is what rdesktop looks like: http://www.mersenneforum.org/showpos...&postcount=252 |
