Prime95 is the rare application that does gain significantly from memory overclocking. |

George, thought you would find this particularly interesting since it sounds like we're pursuing similar builds around the same time. I finished my second build and found some interesting info.
Both builds: Mini-ITX with 80+ Bronze PSU Quote:

Upfront Cost: $356.83 to $439.84 (23.3% increase) Power Consumption: 71W to 93W (30.1% increase) Highest Throughput: 159.00 to 186.78 (17.5% increase) Not what I was hoping for, but it's looking like if I'm going to add a few more systems (which I plan to), the i5-6500 with DDR4-2133 may be the best bang for the buck. Two questions if you don't mind: 1) Can you enable the "DDR4 non-Z OC" feature on the H110 board and does that make a difference in throughput and power consumption? 2) If you put the i5-6500 in the Z170 board, what is the throughput and power consumption? Note: The throughput numbers are less than I was expecting when I was extrapolating from Haswell/DDR3 numbers. I had estimated 197 vs. 189 and 165 vs. 159. It is my understanding that DDR4 has worse latency than DDR3 and perhaps that explains my optimistic estimates. |

A couple other things:
1) Did you try the included Intel heatsink/fan? If so, what were the temps? What are the temps now? 2) Can you tell if there is any turbo boost when prime95 is running 4 workers? |

I am also curious how the i5-6600 compares to the i5-6500 with DDR4-2133 RAM.

This one I can easily answer because I already tested it. I didn't save the results, but there was virtually no change in throughput. If limited to 2133 ram, I definitely think it's worth saving a few bucks and going with the 6500.

If there's no difference at 3.1 GHz, that would be another $15 in savings per system. |

Yes, but not to the full "turbo" rate. The 6500 is listed at 3.2GHz, turbo of 3.6, but is running at 3.3 under prime (very steady and consistent 3.3). The 6600 is listed at 3.3, turbo of 3.9, and is running 3.6 under prime (again, very steady 3.6). These numbers are the same with 4cpu on 1 worker and 4cpu on 4 worker.
