The poll for move 16 just closed, and the most popular move was Bxf6. Stockfish responded with 16...gxf6, and the FEN is:

17.Nd4 allows 17...Ne3 and we have nothing to show for the lost material as far as I can see. Or can anyone see anything for White there?
17.Qd4 looks right to me, protecting b2. Last fiddled with by Brian-E on 2016-01-17 at 13:48 |

As far as I can tell all moves other than 17. Qd4 either lose materail or result in a poor position.

aka all moves except {Qd4,Nd4,Nc5,Rf2} allow an immediate check of our king.

Qd4, for sure
isn't that what we intended to do in the first place? (now, I am out of the DB moves... )

Just wanted to document my desired move o-fish-oily in case I missed a vote due to travels.
While watching Komodo vs Stockfish, the actual game was being played ~17 moves in advance. A decent player has about a 7 move look-ahead. If we manage to get past 25 moves without serious injury, we're doing very well. Last fiddled with by jwaltos on 2016-01-18 at 15:39 |

I agree with Qd4 per my line noted last move:
17. Qd4 Qb6 18. Rab1 Qe6 19. c3 Qf5 20. Qf2 Rae8 Of course, our software opponent may decide on a different move in response to Qd4.... |

After 18. Qd4 SF has to deal with the attack on the f6 pawn.
18... Kg7 protects pawn but to early to bring the King out. 18... f5 just postpones the loss. 18... Re8 protects pawn but reduces board control. 18... Re6 protects pawn but nothing more. 18... Re5 protects pawn but nothing more. 18... Rd7 protects pawn but nothing more. 18... Rc7 protects pawn but nothing more. 18... Qd6 protects pawn but nothing more. 18... Qb6 protects pawn, increases board control and pins our queen. |
