The poll for move 8 just closed, and the most popular move was O-O. Stockfish responded with 8...Be7, and the FEN is:
r2qk2r/pp1nbppp/5n2/2pp4/3P4/5N2/PPPN1PPP/R1BQ1RK1 w kq - 2 9 Game so far: 1.e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nd2 c5 4. Ngf3 Nf6 5. exd5 exd5 6. Bb5+ Bd7 7. Bxd7+ Nbxd7 8. O-O Be7 |

9.dxc5 Nxc5 10.Nb3, to be followed shortly by c3, establishes our strong point on d4 and leaves us ready to develop bishop and rooks.
9.Re1 and 9.c3 are alternatives, both being moves we probably want to play soon anyway. They probably lead to the same sort of positions as 9.dxc5 does, but they are less forcing because Black could alter the course of things radically by replying ...c4 (though I see no historical games where Black does that). @science_man_88 Your post seems to be thinking along lines of an attack on the Black king, but I would suggest it's not (yet) the type of position where that is on the cards. Black's king position after it castles is rock solid for now. We need to complete development before we undertake anything concrete. |

I agree on 9. dxc5.
I can't understand what SM88 is trying to say. |

just being my stupid self and trying to rush things that can't be rushed, all I was pointing to is the h5 square is key to attack both f3 and h7 which would be the squares to target to either stop or control a king side castle but it's currently under attack anyways.

science_man, are you playing for black? why would you want to attack f3? Please play for white, black is good enough by itself!

Well, don't feel bad about it, most of us are. Talking in my name only, I have no trouble understanding why the DB moves are better than the others, but if I would have to come up with them, in this phase of the game, I mean in front of the board in a real game, most probably I would already have lost the game.

I will be leaving town for a couple of weeks on Thursday. It's just now starting to get interesting so I'll attempt to make time to log on while I'm gone to offer some commentary. :-)
