A likely feature of this position is Black's isolated queen's pawn on d5 after we play dxc5. We then have an unassailable square d4 to plant a protected knight, and Black's d pawn itself may be vulnerable and will in any case require Black to protect it.

An immediate 6.dxc5 prevents Black from ducking the above-mentioned set-up with ...c4. However it can be a good idea to wait until Black has already moved the f8 bishop before we play dxc5 so that Black doesn't gain time by developing this piece at the same time as recapturing the pawn.

The most frequently played move in this position seems to be 6.Bb5+. A quick exchange of this piece after 6...Bd7 7.Bxd7+ leaves us ready to castle. 6.Bb5+ does indeed look the most natural to me.

I've been trying to work out all the lines of attack ( from Bb5+) in my head if the reply is the absurd Ke7 it is almost guaranteed to be a win for us with a knight defending I think because using a pawn we could trap it on the e file and attack with the queen against 2 defenders ( a knight and a bishop) and most exchanges I see happening from there help force check/checkmate so that's most likely going to get thrown out as a possibility to reply with quickly. if the reply is a block we can use the queen to force defence with as few as 3 possible defenders ( yes I know that's not really few). either way Bb5+ definitely is looking good to me.

Agreed. Though if/when the time comes, 7. Qe2+ should also be considered.

Moving the knight from d2 to b3 or pawn from c2 to c4 are two options I'm considering to start fighting for center control. Moving the Queen in front of the King at any point in the game to face opposing pieces is something I have always sought to avoid - I believe this creates weakness for white. Castling is a great defensive move, if required. It diverts lines of attack from black that may have developed, however, I feel that it is too early to castle (within 3 moves) because it entrenches and confines white to a more limited spectrum of choices and creates minimal disruption to black.
