I'm guessing your browser is too old. Here's a table of what browsers support the transitions.

The time delay for the fade effect can be changed. Right now it is set for two seconds.

You can disable JS if you want. The page will still be functional, the spoilers just a bit less user-friendly.

I tried out the current solution on mobile (Chrome and Firefox on Android), and it works pretty well. Scrolling doesn't interfere with it, only tapping somewhere on the page will move the invisible cursor. Selecting the text (which is a bit of a pain on mobile to begin with) reveals it clearly in Firefox, but only faintly in Chrome. If you want to be able to easily read multiple spoilers on a mobile device, you'd really want the "clicking keeps it visible" behavior that JS can give you.

But then, the whole forum isn't very phone-friendly to begin with. There's no point putting a lot of effort into having good mobile spoiler effects if nobody's using it anyway.

Also, I think that two seconds is too slow. A half or one second, maybe.

FF 3.6 (not 36, 3.6). And it is just the right age!

I think the time should be faster than clicking on "show spoiler" used to be. To my eye, the present 2 sec is just right.

using developer tools on chrome to inspect the original site you linked to seems to use the html code tag. I'm indifferent for the most part I mostly use chrome regardless of device I'm on.

I do everything here with a tablet these days. I hate my PC and haven't used it for months. This new spoiler tag feels friendlier to me on the tablet.
