As a result, the Titan X and 980 Ti are both limited to native FP64 rates of 1/32.

980 ti would be cheaper than the titan X, that might help.

I understand (from James's site and web, I don't own one and didn't play with) that they are quite good for mfaktc too, beating "legacy" cards at crunching per watt or per buck spent...

Anyhow, for me, I really welcome them, and any new stuff the company will push to the market, as I said, this can mean for me only one (good) thing: the price of classical Titan (no x, no z, no black, just plain) will still go down, so I can buy few more...

Remember to get a Titan Black instead of the original Titan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_700_series

According to that chart it has 1707 GFLOPS vs 1500 GFLOPS double precision and 5121 GFLOPS vs 4500 GFLOPS single precision, and they cost the same some places.

Titan Z with 2 GPU are ~55%-60% faster than Titan Black in both DP and SP, but still cost 90+% more.

Actually not, Titan black is a bit weaker at DP due to power limitations. I did the DC of M345678877 by periodically switching between a "black" and a "normal". The thread is somewhere around here if you search the forum for this exponent. James' site is a bit in the weed related to Titan black (I think the one tested there was not DP enabled), but still supports what I say. Moreover, I know how to "unlock" a "normal" Titan (I also discussed this here around), but never unlocked a "black" one.

Without overclocking, the 980 Ti I purchased starts at around 750 GHz-days per day, but slows to about 630 probably due to thermal throttling. Blower fans suck. No pun intended. Once it's under a waterblock I am hoping to hit 800.

If one doesn't care about aesthetics... I've solved with a 10 € blower (WB are much more expensive!!) and you may keep fresh yours memory sticks as well...: 2x gtx 590 classified and one GTX 980Ti in the same case.. Just removed the right side door of the case... All of them are running hot but not too hot... And here in Italy it becomes to get hot: summer has begun!!
BTW: the 590s are still faster than 980Ti, much hungry of energy, but remarkably faster (850 ghz days/day at 770 mhz, no overvolt, locked by the recents drivers)... Even "they have roughly 4 years on their shoulders"... (italian motto litterally translated, hope it may understand!). The iussue may be the PSU, actually...

Corsair just introduced its own factory liquid-cooled, overclocked, GeForce GTX 980 Ti card. Called the Hydro GFX, the new Corsair card comes “superclocked,” with clock speeds about 20 percent faster than a stock GeForce 980 Ti card. The clock speed increases from a standard 1000MHz base and 1075MHz boost to 1191MHz base and 1291MHz boost, which adds up to about to a 15-percent performance increase, according to Corsair. Thanks to the liquid cooler, however, it runs 30 percent cooler, Corsair said.
