So, did anyone else solve it, after all?

Not me. I wasted about 4 evenings into arranging those 7 holes and I am sooo much close (holding the thumb and index together right now) then I gave up. I had no time for it anymore, and I am waiting for the publishing of the results. If you have a solution with 8 holes AND with poetry (I was thinking something along the line "ibm ponder this", but the quick fox and the lazy dog is also good ) then you better send it in !!!

I wasn't hunting for an 8 holes solution, something tells me that there is a 7 holes solution which I am missing, and anyhow I am not good at matching English poetry to it, so I won't. But some guys sent already solutions WITH poetry (last time I checked last week), and I can't believe that they were able to match 7 holes AND poetry together, and I can't. Therefore it mat be possible that the right solution is with 8 holes, and in this case, you should send it in. You have nothing to lose here, only to gain. Of course, if you don't already have the 7 holes done, or in process to doing it.

...they didn't give me an asterisk for my wonderful and highly intelligible sentence "PUNY CAT CRIED 'WOLF!'"

EDIT: They did after I asked why.
