There are three countries in South America proper that do not share a border with Brazil.

What is your definition of "South America proper"?

LaurV is indeed right; if you count only land borders, then there are two. If you count islands (debatable, IMO) then the UK holds islands that are sometimes called a part of South America. These obviously do not share a border with Brazil.)

Maybe he is counting Panama, usually included in "Central America", but there is no reason that the southern part of it could not be considered as part of South America.

Can't be Brazil because Brazil clearly shares a boundary (all of it in fact) with Brazil.

Doesn't the concept of sharing involve at least two sharers?

Not obviously so. Not obvious to me, anyway.

Default Central America

from Wikipedia- see first link below-
Quote:
Central America is the tapering isthmus of southern North America, with unique and varied geographic features. The Pacific Ocean lies to the southwest, the Caribbean Sea lies to the northeast, and the Gulf of Mexico lies to the north. Some physiographists define the Isthmus of Tehuantepec as the northern geographic border of Central America,[5] while others use the northwestern borders of Belize and Guatemala. From there, the Central American land mass extends southeastward to the Isthmus of Panama, where it connects to the Pacific Lowlands in northwestern South America.
In general, it seems that Central America definition most used is the latter of the above. While CA is considered the "tail" of North America, it lies on the Caribbean Plate, the land extent of which pretty much matches the "Guatemala to the Southern border of Panama" definition of CA.
