I'm almost certain it's your browser, not the web page, doing this for you. I'm using the latest Firefox, and just switched to the WYSIWYG editor option (being, I think, the most likely option to include its own spell-check) and the spell-check that I have is quite apparently Firefox's. An easy way I can see this is by right clicking in the text box > Languages > Add Dictionaries, which opens a Firefox add-ons page to install new dictionaries. (also note you can right click on any "misspelled" word and add it to your dictionary)
As an additional check, I did a quick read-through of all the JS on this (creating new reply) page, and found no word lists.
OK thanks. I use either Firefox or IE and get word-checks which appear to be alike over different apps
(including this forum) so I wasn't sure. But if the forum doesn't spell-check, it must be the browsers.
CTTOI, why would "mersenne" be highlighted here? My bad. Again, thanks for letting me waste a question.

Because it should be with a capital M, being a proper noun, it's someone's name.

OK, but Mersenne also gets highlighted. Can't be the forum software, I guess.

Browser speel chekkers have rather small dictionaries until the user educates them. More obscure words often get flagged for me.

I have a tendency to use both the 'merican and proper British spellings for various words. Spell chequers often flag them. At work I get all sorts of things flagged. I have to educate the various software there and the on-line e-mail service. Always make sure that you have the boss' unusual name spell correctly before telling the software to add the word.

Hehe, "proper British", like there is such a thing. And as if everything else is somehow improper.

Like primality? (this is a notorious, thematic example)

If someone would post a (big) dictionary-word-list here I'd appreciate it.
Shouldn't really take up too much space, would be useful to access on
occasion, would help me in a certain word-game-playing-program, etc.
TIA.

It wouldn't be too hard to install one of the 'insane' dictionary packages on Linux. The English ones have over 300k words, which covers just about everything.
