PS: Does anyone have personal experience to tell me if a 500W PS is enough for a i5-2500 and a GTX-970 GPU? Neither OC'd. Nothing but GIMPS on it.

Depends... The power consumption itself will be no problem but a GTX 970 needs two 6pin PCI power cables.. which not all 500W PSU's have, especially generic ones.

We have never used a power adapter before, but they are available so maybe they work?

Yep. Though the other issue you can run into with power supplies without the two PCIe connectors is the 12-volt rail configuration that may put the single PCIe connector on the same rail as the IDE power connectors. My 500 watt power supply does that, which is why I bought a GTX 760 as it was the best Nvidia card I could use with it at the time.

You'll have to check how much _current_ is your PSU giving on the 12V rail and compute the power. That is written on the box. You must be about 20% or more _over_ the video card requirement. The 500W total power supply does not mean that there is enough power available for the video card. It may be that you have a 40 amps on 5V and 3.3V and then not enough on 12V. Technically, the 500W should be enough for the CPU and one 970, but you have to check. Better safe than sorry.

With 500V on the cards I doubt much will be working after a few seconds. More likely sorry than safe IMO.
