My response was always "can, but won't" until they had learned a modicum of sociable behaviour and had ceased behaving like a spoiled brat. After that lesson had sunk in, assistance was forthcoming.

I had posted a length followup post in which I had explained that once I too
knew nothing about this subject and explaining the level of effort it took
for me to learn the basics.

That post has disappeared. Why was it deleted? There were no flames.

I remember reading it and wasn't aware that it had disappeared. I'll try to track it down.

You in fact quoted part of the post and replied to it.

It seems this post never turned up. Would Mr. Silverman care to rehash his post, 1.75 years later? Or is there a similar post elsewhere? I would love to hear about this, or the educational experience of any other highly-educated/experienced ones, like (but not exclusively) George, xilman, Batalov, Tom Womack, Alexander Kruppa, jasong, and ewmayer. Less, "These are my degrees," and more, "This is how I dealt mentally and (possibly) emotionally with my education."

You might not think it a story worth telling, but even an anecdote has the possibility to touch the minds of many here on this forum, including younger ones.

I apologise if I should not have bumped this topic.

Funny thing. Just as I was about to drift off to sleep last night, it hit me: jasonp, not jasong! I decided to stay in my warm bed instead of getting up to correct it.
