With 44.Bc2 we have no counterattack. So we have to move our Knight. My favoured square is f6. This resticts White's Rook, probable moving to g7 next before we move Kf7.

Yes, 44...Nf6. I think it's the only move which prevents them moving their king to h5 to be followed by Rxh6 leaving an endgame Bishop + h, g, a pawns against Knight + a pawn which I think they would win pretty easily.
44...Nf6 also prevents them centralizing their king for the moment. They will have to regroup to do that. |

I agree with Nf6. I think they will reply Bf5 and we can respond Bc1.

Perhaps... just perhaps ... our move is so obvious this time that we can reply fairly quickly. That would at least negate a possible reputation we as a team might have gained in recent months for delaying our move unnecessarily until the last minute. (I don't think that was a justified criticism when it was made against us, by the way, but I think it would be nice not to provide any good reason for it to be made again.)
We just need to hear from David this time. And/or from anyone else who might think we have any other reasonable move to consider apart from 44...Nf6. |

Playing Nf6 "early" is fine by me.

Let's wait for David's input. I am totally unconcerned about unjustified criticism by the other team about our taking our time for moves.

Well said. It's worth just mentioning though, for the record, that the criticism didn't come from the other team but from a bystander. (Which makes it even less of a concern!) LaurV made a point of defending our right to take our time. But I'm glad to see that David has posted our move now. |

I would agree that on a few moves we seemed have pretty much made our decision by day 3 and could have voted then. Instead we had no posts until we voted last minute.
