deletion disabled during the edit period

One used to be able to delete one's post during the period that one could edit it (one hour.) That possibility has been disabled. Are there reasons for that ?

Sometimes I reply to a post and only after posting realise that it is useless to do so. I know one should think before posting, but thinking does not stop and more thinking makes one change one's mind :-)

Trying to understand the response, I am posting this. This should help me understand the response based on the fact of "deletability".

A work around is to delete the contents of the post, and replace them with something innocuous, such as, "Removed by poster."

Perhaps we have a candidate above for Post of the Year 2014. (I think it's a pity that that competition never got off the ground when it was attempted a few years ago.)

I can accept that, my opinion is that one could, should (?), discuss those things. And yes there would be a lot of noise and fire (flames ?) Management by obfuscation is not my thing. I can understand though that not everybody is a Don Quixote or that more important things deserve more energy.

In the end it does not change much : emptying a post an hour after publishing it or deleting it.. WB (Why bother) ?
