Default deletion disabled during the edit period

One used to be able to delete one's post during the period that one could edit it (one hour.) That possibility has been disabled. Are there reasons for that ?

Sometimes I reply to a post and only after posting realise that it is useless to do so. I know one should think before posting, but thinking does not stop and more thinking makes one change one's mind :-)

Trying to understand the response, I am posting this. This should help me understand the response based on the fact of "deletability".

A work around is to delete the contents of the post, and replace them with something innocuous, such as, "Removed by poster."

In the foreground we have a nimble kitten fleeing over fields of clover. This symbolizes the beleaguered sysop, whose decisions are incapable of satisfying, everyone, all the time. Are the decisions done in a vacuum? The clover cannot say. Busy bees that make honey are not in the frame but exist none the less. An interested bystander believes that discussions do occur offstage and if changes occurred, they are oftentimes motivated by incidents -- incidents that need not be dragged into the foreground, especially when the decisions have already been made. How do the bees feel? The picture cannot tell us. Therefore, although the bees have sting, the sting is not frequent.

Both less and more are known about the creatures that the kitten are fleeing. Less because they are out of focus and distant. More because much of their activity is on stage. The picture suggests a possibly menacing aspect. Are they individually unique? The response is uniform regardless; the kitten seems to be seeking to avoid a pillow fight.

Perhaps we have a candidate above for Post of the Year 2014. (I think it's a pity that that competition never got off the ground when it was attempted a few years ago.)

I can accept that, my opinion is that one could, should (?), discuss those things. And yes there would be a lot of noise and fire (flames ?) Management by obfuscation is not my thing. I can understand though that not everybody is a Don Quixote or that more important things deserve more energy.

In the end it does not change much : emptying a post an hour after publishing it or deleting it.. WB (Why bother) ?
