Move 39 - Page 2

Apart from 39...(gh)5 40.Bd1 N-any 41.Rxa5 I quite like g5 or h5 but I can't find a good response for Bd1.
I have spent the morning on this. I am pretty certain that Bb4 is probably the best move. Bd8 is another possibility though.

Just very quickly, I may be wrong and I have very little time to look:

Yes, 40.Nc5 and 41...Nxa4 might be good strategy. We must consider it. But we must forget about winning i.m.o., they could if necessary give up their bishop for our a pawn, and K+R+2 connected pawns vs K+B+N will have us fighting for a draw, not them.

Please, can someone else (if not David then Paul or Rich) take it on themselves to make our move? It is due shortly. I will not be here!

EDIT: Oh, just to respond to David, 39...Bb4 allows us to protect h pawn which 39...Bd8 doesn't. Does that sway it?
