Reinventing the wheel There have been doing 80 for years:

The 100mph level was achieved in the 1940's.

I have seen one of the pacing vehicles used for these attempts. It was years ago and just in passing. The average person would not have had a clue about the weird thing attached to it.

Looks like you didn't actually watch the video. It is stated that the record is 167mph. The objective was never to claim any records. This bike was made in a one-man frame shop and was paced behind a Zephyr.

Me thinks that this was posted elsewhere, but still appropriate here:

The Copenhagen Wheel allows you to capture the energy dissipated while cycling and braking and save it for when you need a bit of a boost.

Second
I just found out that one of the larger bike tour races will go right by me (in my back garden so to speak). And per recent trends, it is always in my area the weekend that I am not. I can't currently access the map of the stage, but it is likely to be within 6km of my domicile.

The Giro d'Irlandia, you mean? Never heard of that one - is it popular?

Hehe! http://www.girostart2014.com

@pinhodecarlos: Yes took pics and a video. But the whole peloton went by in 5 seconds flat. Will look to upload the media soon.

It is happening later this week and will come within a 1 km walk of my now vacated domicile (actually the stage ends in 3 laps on that route that pass that location. And I will actually be driving on one of the previous routes of the race this weekend.

Video: Cyclist embarrassed after celebrating stage win one lap too early

Spanish cyclist Eloy Teruel was left with egg on his face after prematurely celebrating a stage win at the Tour of California.

Teruel stormed into the lead as he approached the stage finish and believing he was on his final lap, celebrated enthusiastically as he crossed the line. However he was soon made to look somewhat foolish as the race had one more lap to go and all the other riders knew it.

He slowly realised the error of his ways, but it was too late, and Teruel ended up finishing tragically in 56th place - not quite worthy of such extravagant celebrations.

Maybe he should see a doctor about his "too-soon problem"?

(I know race sponsor Amgen makes the blood-doping products of choice for many cyclists; maybe they have a drug for Mr. Teruel's problem, too.)

And Le Tour is up and running, first stage from Leeds to Harrogate (UK).
Third stage is from Cambridge to Londres. This is a unique opportunity to the guys here that live in Cambridge to see the riders in 10 seconds...lol
